Dear Parents and Students,

To celebrate 129th anniversary of our school, members of the Students Union recently built a 129-shaped transparent light box controlled remotely by an app. The light box has been filled with paper stars in which each student wrote her vision for Pooi To. It was really a unique creation to display students’ innovative and imaginative ideas. I recalled last year when STEM was introduced and integrated into the curriculum, the teachers cooperated to design a school-based STEM curriculum for the junior form. STEM is not just about acquiring knowledge but more importantly is about the connection and integration of daily life. It trains students in logical and scientific methods of problem-solving, and develops students’ innovative thinking, so that they can meet the challenges of the new century. This 129-shaped light box is an example of the STEM approach and a learning outcome for our students.

Nearly 400 alumni and their family came together at Inverness Road to celebrate Alumni Homecoming Day. Even more than the exciting ball game competition between alumni and teachers, I was particularly touched by the words of four alumni who graduated in 1957. Their humble and grateful hearts went out to their alma mater which nurtured them 60 years ago and inspired them to contribute in Hong Kong, and all over the world.

Pooi To is now stepping into its 130th year. I am proud to be a member of the school at this juncture in its history. Over the past 100 years the school has been able to maintain its vitality and steady development, thanks to the support of the stakeholders. The theme for our 130th anniversary is "From Vision to Legend", which refers to the journey our girls will undertake.

The Southern Baptist Convention had a vision – to bring a Christian education to women. Since the first missionary arrived in Guangzhou in 1888, Pooi To girls have been receiving an all-round education with Jesus Christ as their guide for moral, academic, physical, social, aesthetic and spiritual development. Inspired by the word of God and steeped in traditional values such as integrity, purity, perseverance and love, our girls are able to forge a legendary future, contributing to human progress and society at large.

To celebrate this important year, the school will organize a series of exciting activities to bring all the Pooi To stakeholders and friends together. I am grateful for all your support and good will.

Best wishes,
Constance Cheung
Principal

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
