Dear Parents and Students,

Some people think they can help their children to ‘win at the starting line’ by training them in different kinds of activities so that they can achieve success. However, children may give up and, at worst, lose their motivation to learn and improve themselves. On the other hand, many people think children’s talent may not necessarily be related to their achievements, and sometimes these may even be obstacles to their success. They believe the only key to success is perseverance, featured in our school motto “Love, Integrity, Purity and Perseverance”.

Everyone must have his or her own dream, but in the process of pursuing it, there is always a temptation to give up because of the discouragement and frustration that comes with adversity. People with clear goals can uphold their belief with perseverance and courage to overcome all obstacles until they achieve success.

Last Friday, the school was honored to invite Mr. Lai Chi-wai, one of the best rock climbers in the world in 2006 and an Outstanding Young Person in 2014, to share his experiences. In the midst of many remarkable achievements, a road accident tragically left him paraplegic. He hasn’t let this hold him back. Instead, he has been brave and determined to surmount every difficulty, and eventually, he conquered Lion Rock in a wheelchair to be 500 meters above Hong Kong. His positive attitude towards life and perseverance to overcome hurdles greatly touched and encouraged all members of the Pooi To Family. Recently, he has been shortlisted for the "Laureus - Best Sporting Movement Award" (this award is also titled "Sports Oscars"). If you want to support him, please cast your vote at this link : http://www.myLaureus.com.

Pooi To has always attached great importance to cooperation between home and school. Last year, we organized two parent talks by Dr Charles Yu Tak-shun and Mr. Jacob Yu Kwok-kin, who are both experts on marriage and family issues. The response from parents was remarkable. This year, we are going to organize a new parent talk “The challenges and opportunities of being young parents” by Dr. Wat Wai-ho who is a practicing family therapist and doctor of philosophy in marriage and family therapy. All parents are welcome to participate.

Wishing you a peaceful and joyful Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Best regards,
Constance Cheung
Principal
