16 March 2020

Dear Parents and Students,

On March 11, the World Health Organization officially declared the "Coronavirus 2019" outbreak a global pandemic. The severity of the pandemic is worrying. Over the past two weeks, the confirmed cases in South Korea, Italy, Iran, France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain and the United States have dramatically increased. It is a reminder to us that if we become complacent, the coronavirus has the potential to get out of control. In recent months, Hong Kong people have insisted on fighting the virus. Both the government and the Hong Kong people have provided contingency measures to prevent the spread of the virus. Some people have even voluntarily started production lines to make face masks in Hong Kong. Many volunteers have also donated and distributed face masks, cleaning items and sanitizing products so that different people can be taken care of. Remember, even though recently there may not have been many confirmed cases, I still want to express my concern to all of you and remind you to continue protecting yourselves and preventing the spread of the virus. Always remember the lessons we learnt from SARS.

The school has implemented the online real-time classroom according to the following schedule:

March 16 to 27

Implementation

March 16 onwards

March 30 onwards

Easter

April 6 to 17

The timetable for each class has already been sent out. In order to provide students with technological support at home, other than borrowing iPads from school, eligible students can also apply for free SIM cards from different organizations. Details can be found on the next page.

The Education Bureau will resume classes on April 20 at the earliest. With this in mind, online teaching was successfully launched in March, and the feedback from teachers about both the learning attitude of students and the teaching progress was very positive. After a tough period, the school decided to revise the dates for the Easter holiday. The new dates are from April 6 to April 17, and over this Easter holiday period only Easter homework will be provided. There will be no online lessons over this period. During Easter, we hope students commemorate the important day of Jesus Christ's crucifixion and His resurrection three days later. It's also time for the whole family to enjoy the holiday. The resurrection of Jesus teaches us to reflect on the meaning of life and bring us the hope of eternal life. Given the difficulties we are currently facing, let us make an extra-effort to keep ourselves calm and to let Jesus Christ lead us, because He has conquered death and He can conquer all our fears and difficulties as well. Remember that Jesus rules the past, the present and the future, and our life is full of hope, because He lives. However, please remember to continue fighting the virus by not traveling aboard during Easter. Hong Kong is facing many imported cases, such as the Egyptian group, the Diamond Princess group and the Supreme Princess group, and this may trigger more local cases. This is what we can do to help both ourselves and our society.

I hope that the Pooi To family can experience campus life together in the near future. We are now preparing for the new measures for class resumption to protect the staff and students on campus. May God lead us in the right direction.

Best regards,
Constance Cheung
Principal
