23 March 2023

Dear Parents and Students,

I would like to thank all guests, alumni, parents, teachers and students for participating in the "Opening Ceremony of Pooi To's 135th Anniversary Celebration and Reopening Ceremony of the School History Museum", which was held on March 11. Not only did Pooi To family members gather together, but also the Secretary for Education, Dr. Choi Yuk-lin, JP was our guest of honour. We were very grateful for the presence of our guests to join us in sharing our happiness. The climax of the opening was a collage formed by the teachers and students using Chinese fans, following the lead of the Chinese Dance Team. Our determination and enthusiasm enabled us to form the pattern of PTMS135 which was very exciting!

The School History Museum was established in 2009, and in 2020 we started to renovate it. In addition to strengthening its exhibits and cultural relics, it also now has multimedia display facilities and multi-functional uses, so that the school history can be connected with our students’ daily lives. The Reopening Ceremony showcased our proud history and milestones, with students playing the roles of different generations. It also showcased how we have led the school to face different challenges, and highlighted our contribution to society over the past century.

We also thank our three alumni, Ms. Lau Shuk-han, Magistrate of the Judiciary, Dr. Lee Ka-man, Head of the Department of Journalism and Communication of Hong Kong Shue Yan University, and Ms. Lam So-wei, Member of the Legislative Council, for their sharing and testimony, allowing students to feel the importance of their alma mater for their future growth and development. The impact of the work was very beneficial as it also demonstrated the passion, determination, love and self-confidence of the alumni in both their work and daily lives. It encouraged students to dare to dream and pursue their future goals.

Our Alumni Day resumed this year, and I was very glad to see so many of our former students returning to Pooi To to celebrate. Pooi To Girls are important representatives and the core of our school. They are the ones who can best express Pooi To's personality, and their performance and behavior represents the school's mission and values. If students can show good qualities such as being positive, united and cooperative, and have a strong sense of responsibility, then this can also reflect the characteristics and value of Pooi To. In addition, the silent work of teachers is one of the most important factors for students' success. Teachers are enlighteners and guides, and their teaching has a vital impact on the growth and development of students. Teachers at Pooi To not only need to impart subject knowledge, but also need to teach students how to learn and think, and they must stimulate students' learning enthusiasm and confidence. As a school, we also value the promotion of Christianity, care and support for students, and their overall growth and development in order to lay a solid foundation for their future. The joy and excitement of the alumni expressed their gratitude to their alma mater. I hope that all alumni will continue to support Pooi To in the future.

Best regards,
Constance Cheung
Principal
