Morning Assembly

Our NET John Hone addressed the School Morning Assembly on Monday 21st September. He spoke about the summer hit movie Inside Out and what we could learn from it. He explained that it was a very good introduction to how the brain works and while it was important to have dreams we need to focus and apply ourselves in order to achieve them. Along the way we will face many challenges and we need to adapt and change in order to overcome them.

The movie Inside Out is not a typical Disney movie with a fairytale theme but a more realistic story where a young girl has to deal with the different emotions and voices in her head. Her family moves to a new city and she feels lost and very sad. It is this sadness that helps her focus on her problems and gives her the strength to change and adapt in order to be happy in her new circumstances. Albert Einstein once said that,” Madness is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” Many people do this without realizing it. When they are failing to achieve their goals they are disappointed but do not change the way they think or the way they behave in order to progress towards their goals.

John concluded his address by saying, “If you want something you don’t have, then you’ve got to do something you’ve never done.” Success and happiness in life come from being able to change and adapt to life’s challenges. The only person you should try to be better than is the person that you were yesterday.
