History and Arts Cultural Tour of Japan

Dates: 27 June to 1 July 2018

Having delved into Japanese traditional culture, students discovered the tightly interwoven relationship between history and arts. They explored the food truck culture there and its artistry and explored the difference between Hong Kong food culture and Japanese one. They also studied cosplay culture out of curiosity. What interested them most was how the local comics which created the culture were one of the leading tourist attractions. From site visits, and other interesting and educational activity, the students learnt that those historic sites played an important part in the industrialization of Japan in the Bakumatsu and Meiji periods. They observed that the government has made an effort to preserve its industrial heritage. After taking part in those intense activities, the students expressed their appreciation of the natural spring scenery through writing and sketching.

It was an eye opening experience which enabled students to gain cultural knowledge and exposure, as well as building rich memories and friendship.
