Dear Parents and Students,

It’s my great pleasure to welcome you to our special celebration marking Pooi To’s 130th Anniversary in this academic year. This year represents a significant milestone in Pooi To’s development so we give extra thanks to our Almighty God for leading us on this path of grace. In 1888, the Southern Baptist Convention sent missionary Emma Young to set up ‘Pooi To Academy’ in Guangzhou. Mrs. R. H. Graves took charge of the school the following year to provide young women with the rare opportunity to receive an education and go on to teach girls Christianity. As the Bible says, “Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28: 19-20. We have not forgotten this great mission – Christian Education has been the core value of Pooi To for these 130 years. We will continue to nurture our Pooi To Girls to develop an all-round education with Jesus Christ as their guide for moral, academic, physical, social, aesthetic and spiritual development.

The theme of this year is "From Vision to Legend” which reminds us of the mission of the Southern Baptist Convention – to bring a Christian education to women – and also the school motto “Love, Integrity, Purity and Perseverance”. Thus we are moving ahead to forge a legendary future, contributing to human progress and society at large.

Let every Pooi To girl with a dream dare to follow that dream and glorify God by their actions, living their own legend and contributing to society. The Bible says, "As thy days, so shall thy strength be." Deuteronomy 33:25. God does not promise us a prosperous and stable life, but He promises that the days shall be given unto us and God will give us the power we need to make those days count. So, whatever challenges we face, His grace and peace are always with us.

The focus of this school year can be characterized by the acronym “CERT” which means
