Dear Parents and Students,

I can’t stop my joyful tears from falling after the 3 sessions of Arts in Action 2018. It was a memorable and fantastic performance appreciated by the audience and especially myself. It was my pleasure and great joy to witness the growth of our students through participation in the arts. The performance of our students was super super .... bravo!

Arts in Action 2018 is the highlight of the Pooi To 130th anniversary calendar. No matter whether it is dance, song, script, stage design, costume or performance, all need creativity and cooperation. Everyone, from our talented performers to our inventive stage crew, practiced for over a year and gave everything they had. This shows in the collective outcome of the interaction among the performers on stage and the response of the audience. The show’s success is due to the spirit and teamwork of the Pooi To Family for 130 years.

Over 200 students and teachers worked together to make the show possible. Apart from our student contributors, I wish to extend special thanks to our supervisor, the IMC, the PTA, the Alumni Association, all the teaching and non-teaching staff, supportive families and all Pooi To’s friends from different primary and secondary schools who supported us.

I especially wish to thank our musical director, Mr Matthew Ma who has worked so hard with his team, Theatre in Theatre, to make this production “The year of Festival” outstanding. I also thank Our Alumni, choreographers, conductors, photographers, hospitality team and our English Dept especially Ms Tracy Leung for MC training and Ms Tobey Tong for script writing. The plot of the story was amended many many times in order to strike a balance between the historical background of the school and creative and new elements. This was really a tough job but you did it! Great! Thanks go also to Ms Heidi Lam and Yuen Ka Kit and their backstage, costume and makeup teams-- the unsung heroes supporting the artists. Special thanks should also be given to Ms. Cecelia Hui who has run the Qipao project for three years and her team. Last but not least, of course, our dearest Ms Vivian Yung led her team, the Arts Education Committee, the musical team, the choir, the Acapella group, percussion, orchestra etc and coordinated the whole project. Without these heroines, our girls could not unleash their potential and showcase their talents. We are blessed to have such a great team that we are able to watch a wonderful performance every year.

Of course celebrating 130 years of history and reviewing the extraordinary events of that time is fascinating. But, more to the point, after 130 years, our school is embarking on a new chapter. Increasingly, women are in the forefront of society. Our graduates will be the leaders, thinkers and creators of a future filled with ever-widening possibilities. The next 130 years in our school’s history are likely to be even more amazing than the last. So girls, grab your future with both hands and dive into the pond.

May God Bless you and Keep you - Thank you!

Best regards,
Constance Cheung
Principal
