14 March 2019

Dear Parents and Students,

Since 1888, the main aim of the missionaries and teachers has been to bring a Christian education to the girls of Pooi To. This aim is something that we have always followed and will continue to follow. We emphasize an all-round education with Jesus Christ as their guide for moral, academic, physical, social, aesthetic and spiritual development. Inspired by the word of God and steeped in traditional values such as integrity, purity, perseverance and love, Pooi To Girls can live as salt and light in their contribution to society.

On the 8th of March, we celebrated the 131st school Anniversary. I would like to give a big thanks to the Student Union for preparing a total of 131 balloons for students to pass on their blessings, love and hope to the school through the balloons. It was followed by a farewell photo of the Delonix Regia, which has been with us for more than 60 years. Each student has been given a piece of leaf shaped paper to write some words about the tree. Thanks again to the Student Union for sticking together the hand-made mini-Delonix Regia, which will be put in the General Office for us to keep our memories of the tree. As a souvenir, all Pooi To family members have received a set of 4 post cards of the Delonix Regia.

Our Alumni Homecoming Day was held successfully on 9th of March. Many alumni returned to their alma mater, not only to say goodbye to the Delonix Regia, but most importantly to join the AGM. Different houses were crowned. They were so grateful to share how their alma mater nurtured them to be a better person in their lives. The climax of the whole day was the Homecoming Dinner. There were 37 tables of 500 alumni, students, and past and current Principals and teachers gathering together. In the welcoming and warm environment, all guests very much enjoyed themselves. This was a magical day, and a unique and unforgettable night. The school will continue to work with the Alumni Association with our mission “Gather Pooi To Ladies together and build an united Pooi To Family.”

Our S.6 girls had their last school day in Pooi To on 21st of February. Together with their teachers and schoolmates, they had to say goodbye to a familiar place. They took photos with friends all around campus, so that they can forever remember their time at Pooi To. The S.6 girls invited peers to write blessings and words of encouragement on their white Cheongsam uniform. I can feel their strong sense of belonging to the school. I still remember when I returned to school after my light dinner around 7 o’ clock, and students were so excited and still taking photos at the school gate. I said to them: "You made the school uniform very creative. Remember to return to your school when you have time! Goodbye, girls!" After a while, when I was working in the my office, I heard something slamming on the window. It turned out to be a group of students who invited me to take photos. I said, "Of course, please come in to my office!" They were quite amazed and said “Really? We can take pictures in the Principal's Office?!" They were excited and eventually we took a picture under our school badge. Girls, do you know how amazed and honored I am to be invited to share your joy on the last school day? Bible say“Let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but indeed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.” 1 John 3:18-19. It is my pleasure to be able to teach you over these years. Dear S6 girls, we are proud of you, add oil!

Best regards,
Constance Cheung
