27 July 2020

Dear Parents and Students,

Due to the severity of the epidemic, with the number of confirmed cases remaining at a high level, the Government announced today a series of anti-epidemic measures to strengthen the protection of public health. For example, public gatherings will be limited to two people instead of the previously allowed four, and a mandatory mask-wearing rule for all indoor and outdoor public spaces will be implemented from July 29.

In addition, the Education Bureau (EDB) announced today that all schools will continue to suspend all on-campus activities from July 29 to August 16. Our school is now only conducting make-up classes or other learning activities online. Students are not allowed to return to school over this time period. It is still uncertain whether face-to-face teaching can be conducted in September. We will continue to follow the updates from the EDB and adjust our school measures accordingly.

The school report card, booklist and summer holiday homework will be distributed to each student through eClass on July 31. For those students who cannot reach our promotion requirements, the class teacher will contact the parents together with their daughter by phone or by videoconferencing to discuss the learning improvement plan. Please kindly reserve time for this.

Furthermore, the overall result of the HKDSE was satisfactory due to a concerted effort made by the teachers and the students. 70% of Pooi To girls have met the basic entrance requirements for admission to publicly funded undergraduate programmes (3322), which is much higher than the Hong Kong average (37.4%). The performance of our students in the HKDSE reflects their diligence and dedication to their studies despite facing the challenges of the pandemic.

As the epidemic is quite severe, please urge your daughters to stay at home. Nobody knows when classes will resume. Only by making good use of the vacation, using our time efficiently, studying hard and equipping ourselves, can we overcome the adversity we are currently facing.

As the Bible says, “The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD is enthroned as King forever. The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace” Psalm 29:10-11. I hope you all stay healthy and strong.

Regards,
Constance Cheung
Principal
