Dear Parents and Students,

16 years ago, the school held its first English musical, "Annie", which was performed at the Ko Shan Theatre in 2006. At that time, our school was faced with the challenge of redeveloping the premises. The performance raised funds for the enhancement of the campus, and the story of “Annie” raised hope and courage for Pooi To family members to bravely face these changes. Time flies, and the new school premises have been serving us for 13 years now, with the culture of musicals and performing arts taking a firm root in the school.

Today, "Arts in Action", which will be held on July 29 in the School Hall, has become an annual event at Pooi To. It will be performed by more than 200 students, who have spent the last 10 months in preparation for it. The performances are diversified, and include a pop band, guzheng ensemble, Chinese dance, jazz dance, choir performance, string quartet, orchestra performance, and the finale, “Seussical Jr.”, this year’s musical. Based on some of Dr. Seuss’ best-selling books, it spreads the message of friends helping each other in times of trouble, never giving up and keeping promises. The content of the story is creative and imaginative, intertwined to bring out one truth after another.

Here at Pooi To we place a high value on performing arts. In addition to students improving themselves by rehearsing again and again, they also receive vocal training, attend dance practice, learn to communicate through expression and movement and are able to improve their English by reciting their lines. All of this helps them to improve in performance, communication and cooperation, while also building a sense of perseverance, responsibility and arts appreciation, which is a brilliant way from them to unleash their potential. Due to the pandemic, there will be two sessions of “Arts in Action” this year, one for current students and one for parents to watch. It is hoped that it can be extended to students and teachers from other primary and secondary schools and alumni in the next academic year.

Best regards,
