Dear Parents and Students,

The "Regulations on the National Flag and National Emblem" was revised and passed on October 8, 2021. It is a symbol of experiencing our country and the sovereignty of our country. The use of the national flag must be in accordance with the law. The school holds the national flag raising ceremony every week to educate students about the national flag. A proper attitude is of great importance to safeguarding the dignity of the country and strengthening the concept among the citizens of our country.

The "National Anthem Ordinance" was also officially gazetted on June 12, 2020, to safeguard the dignity of the country, regulate the playing, singing, broadcasting and use of the national anthem, so as to enhance our citizens' national concept and patriotism.

The goals of these two ordinances are to maintain the dignity of the national flag, national emblem and national anthem, as well as love and respect for our country. Any inappropriate use of the national flag, national emblem or national anthem in any form, including in schools, within the Hong Kong SAR and beyond, is a criminal offence, and offenders can be imprisoned upon conviction.

Ignorance is not an excuse and cannot be used to escape from the law. If you do not know the ordinance clearly, you have to ask and seek help, and make sure you fact check any information from the internet. This is the instinct, skill, and wisdom that we need to survive. The goal of education is not only to teach students to know the law and abide by the law, but more importantly, to uphold a higher moral standard than just abiding by the law. The Bible, as our cornerstone, should become an internalized value and our behavior should reflect that accordingly.

One day, as I walked past the classrooms in the morning, I saw that some were students reading quietly, some were revising and some were chatting. When I went to the window of one particular class, I saw many students doing or copying homework. Some students saw the principal outside and immediately put away the copied work. They pretended to be ignorant. Still standing outside, I asked the whole class to put down their pens and listen to me. “Students, do you think honesty is important, or that submitting homework on time by any means is more important?” At the beginning, half of them raised their hands for honesty being more important. Gradually, more and more students raised their hands for honesty until the whole class had their hands up. Thank God! I told them, “Raising your hand is just knowing, but acting on what you know is more important. If the Holy Spirit of God makes you struggle in your mind, it's better for you to tell the teacher honestly than to plagiarize. It's more valuable, because God knows everything." I then left. I chose to leave room for students to reflect on this themselves, and hopefully they can eventually set their own moral standards in the future and be both salt and light in society.

Last but not least, I would like to congratulate Ceci Leung of S4 on winning the Outstanding Students' Award (Junior Section) in the 14th Kowloon Region Outstanding Students' Award among all elites from different districts in Kowloon, great job! Keep it up. The Bible says, "Don't let anyone look down on you for being young, but be an example to believers in word, deed, love, faith, and purity." 1 Timothy 4:12. Use Ceci as an inspiration to pursue your dreams and unleash your potential in all aspects of your life.

Best regards,
