Dear Parents and Students,

We would like to thank parents for supporting students in getting vaccinated so that they could meet the requirements of the vaccine pass in order to participate in September’s Sports Days and the House Activity Days in November. A camp was held for S1 and S4 in September, while S2, S3 and S6 held theirs in November. S5 will wait for an arrangement from the Civic and Social Development Division of the Education Bureau for an exchange with the motherland next term. This series of camps requires a lot of coordination, including the navigation of restrictions imposed on us by the pandemic, the number of doses needed for students to meet the requirements of the camp, the assistance of teachers in logistics and facilitating students in camps, guiding students in COVID protection, etc. Overcoming each obstacle one by one, the camps were held in a safe environment without any outbreaks. It was not easy, but it was achieved. I’m so proud of all the students and teachers for their dedication and cooperation. However, we must not forget that without the guidance and care of God, nothing can be achieved.

Why do we insist on attempting to make camps work despite the worries of the pandemic? It is because we are convinced that during the last three years, students have spent a lot of time at home lacking practical experiences, social activities and opportunities for growth. I hope students could cherish the time at camp and focus on group activities, mutual sharing, gratitude and praise, and build a loving and caring community.

Through group activities, students can develop their bodies and minds, learn to use multi-directional thinking to solve problems, recognize their potential and limits, improve their observation, insight, analysis, learning, resilience and creativity. They can also enhance their ability to resist setbacks, strengthen their personalities and resilience, and learn to actively face setbacks and adversity in life.

Opportunities for classmates to spend time together are very important so that they can establish relationships and learn to communicate face-to-face in order to build harmonious interpersonal relationships. Because of students' psychological vulnerability and loneliness during the pandemic, spending a few nights together allows them to enjoy happiness and release stress through group activities, communication and developing interpersonal skills.

Through the camp activities, students can learn to cherish both team work and the individual contribution of others, be grateful and praise each other, and appreciate the characteristics and strengths of their classmates with a positive attitude, so that they can also learn to appreciate their parents, teachers, families, school, society and country, and build an optimistic outlook towards life.

Best regards,
Constance Cheung
