9 March 2023

Dear Parents and Students,

We waited until this month, March, for a series of activities to come together to celebrate the 135th anniversary of Pooi To, and it coincided with the government’s complete removal of the requirement to wear masks, witnessing an end to the three-year anti-epidemic restrictions. The double happiness is indescribable. The pandemic has caused us to wear masks for three years without even realizing it, and suddenly, we can choose not to wear them! As most people are still wearing masks on the street, it seems that people in Hong Kong are not yet used to it.

One day in the morning assembly, I asked the students whether they should wear masks for the school anniversary celebration or not. They responded with a clear and loud "Wear it!" To which I smiled and replied "Then let's wear it together!" For me, they are the leading roles of the school anniversary day, and we must respect their choices and listen to their feelings so that they can feel love and respect. The cultivation of their feelings helps to build a healthy and harmonious relationship. This kind of respect and care can not only make people feel valued, but also promote trust and understanding between one another. The beauty of Pooi To is not only the comfortable environment of the campus, but also the connection between people in the school, which has allowed Pooi To to get through 135 years.

We are now in March, and the spring breeze is blowing all of the flowers into full bloom. The campus is full of purples and reds, what a beautiful spring scene! It is the season of continuous growth. I hope that the fine weather will last until the opening ceremony of the school celebration this Saturday, March 11, so that teachers, students, guests and alumni will have an unforgettable day. See you this Saturday!

Best regards,
