20 April 2023

Dear Parents and Students,

The Easter holiday has brought a sense of joy and relief to the public after the pandemic. Notably, outdoor activities and tourism have experienced a surge in demand, providing a much-needed sense of relaxation and tranquillity. Whilst the public was enjoying respite, our teachers, students, and instructors who participated in Arts in Action 2023 were engaged in uninterrupted training and rehearsals. We hope that the performance at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Auditorium on April 22, 2023, will be able to showcase our talents and create an unforgettable experience for our audience.

The Arts in Action/Musical has been a large-scale performance at Pooi To every year since 2006. It combines dance, singing, instrument performance, fashion design, and musicals, which bloom students' potential in the performing arts.

A proficient production team is also an essential component in organizing the behind-the-scenes operations of Arts in Action, such as the Art Education Committee led by Ms. Vivian Yung, the director of the musical "Alice in Wonderland," choreographers, vocalists, orchestra conductors, lighting designers, stage managers, and costume designers, and other key personnel. Their unwavering dedication to upholding the quality of the performances is highly appreciated and valued.

As the event is scheduled to take place at PolyU this year, which has specific policies for visitors, a significant amount of administrative work has been put in to ensure a smooth and efficient ticketing process. Thanks to Vice Principal Ms. So Shuk-sum and Mr. Chris Lee for their efforts in negotiating and managing ticketing with different organizations, visitors will enjoy easier access to the campus on the day of the event. Please remember to bring both your QR code and admission ticket to the venue, and arrive on time to ensure a smooth entry process.

Our girls dedicated a significant amount of time and energy to the rehearsal process of Arts in Action, with the aim of delivering their best performance. Throughout the rehearsal process, the students maintained an open-minded and sincere attitude towards the instructor's feedback and suggestions, in order to improve themselves.

Why does Pooi To place so much emphasis on student participation in the performing arts?

Participating in performing arts provides students with a platform to express themselves on stage, which can significantly enhance their self-confidence and presentation skills. Students are required to perform in front of the audience, portraying various characters and singing songs. With consistent practice and performance opportunities, students can gradually develop their skills in public speaking and unlock their full potential in performing arts.

In addition, students must engage in collaborative efforts with other performers and production staff to ensure the successful realization of the project. This requires students to have good teamwork and communication skills.

Students also learn to maintain focus and patience throughout the rehearsal and performance process. Continuous practice and repeated rehearsals instil the discipline required to sustain concentration during performances, ensuring the smooth execution of the project.

We firmly believe that skills acquired through practical experience are more profound and can be applied to real-life situations, thereby facilitating future learning and promoting whole-person development.
