Dear Parents and Students,
Recently, the delegation of Mainland Olympians for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games visited Hong Kong for a three-day trip that included two public demonstrations. These events allowed us to witness their impressive performances firsthand and celebrate their triumphant return from the Olympics.
Reflecting on the highlights of this summer, I feel immense pride as I remember the 16-day Olympic Games held from July 26 to August 11. The achievements of our athletes from both the Mainland China and Hong Kong were truly remarkable. The national diving team displayed nearly flawless skills, captivating us with their precision and grace. Through various videos, we can appreciate the years of dedication, hard work, injuries, and self-discipline that paved the way for their success. Their perseverance, mental toughness, and fighting spirit shone through as they competed, showcasing exceptional psychological resilience.
I vividly recall the foil final, where Edgar Cheung Ka-long faced an Italian opponent and initially trailed 12:14. The tension was palpable, and my heart raced with every moment. Edgar rallied to tie the score at 14:14 and narrowly clinched victory at 15:14, securing the gold medal. Coincidentally, our other gold medalist, Vivian Kong Man-wai, also rebounded from early setbacks to win her gold, while swimmer Siobhan Haughey earned two bronze medals. The unwavering spirit and dedication of these athletes allowed Hong Kong’s pride to shine on the world stage, deeply inspiring us all. Competing in the Olympics is a significant achievement, and winning a medal is an added honor. However, an athlete's worth is not solely defined by their Olympic performance; medals should not be the only measure of success. I was truly inspired by their passion, determination, and the invaluable support from their coaches and teams.
Many people speak of their dreams but often hesitate to take action, seeking shortcuts and avoiding the hard work that accompanies pursuing those aspirations. This ultimately leads to stagnation and missed opportunities. As we embark on a new school year, I encourage our students to embrace challenges and opportunities with hope and perseverance, just as our athletes did during the Olympics. They exemplified resilience, courage, and a commitment to personal growth while enjoying their journey.
I urge our students to face their academic and personal challenges with bravery, striving for self-improvement as they work towards their goals. For example, the last graduating class achieved remarkable results, with 84.3% of students obtaining at least "332A2" in the 2024 HKDSE and 82.0% securing places in JUPAS degree programs. Their dedication sets a strong example for our current students.
This year, our school theme focuses on inheriting culture and traditions, appreciating historical wisdom, identifying with our country and culture, and gaining a global perspective. We aim to inspire students to strive for a better and more peaceful world while fostering personal growth, gratitude, and future readiness.

Let us embark on this new school year with enthusiasm and determination!
Best regards,
Constance Cheung
