Dear Parents and Students,
Now the First Term exams have finished, we will hold a Revision Week for students to review their results, and more importantly, to identify their strengths and areas for improvement. This learning process is crucial for personal growth and mutual advancement, reflecting our commitment to the school's vision of "Encouraging Growth for ALL."
As we reflect on the world around us, we feel fortunate to live in Hong Kong, where many aspects of our lives are within our control. For example, hard work in our studies often yields predictable results. However, the unpredictable forces of nature remind us of their uncontrollable power, as illustrated by recent events such as the 6.8 magnitude earthquake in Tibet, and the wildfires in Los Angeles. In Tibet, we mourn the loss of over a hundred lives and the destruction of thousands of homes. In California, at least twenty-five lives have been lost, and communities face the relentless spread of fires, forcing hundreds of thousands to evacuate. These disasters serve as reminders that, despite our progress and preparedness, we remain vulnerable to the whims of nature.
When confronted with such calamities, we may struggle to understand their purpose, but we should not question God's will, as He sees the bigger picture and He is in control.
"The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love." (Psalm 103:8) He is a faithful Lord. After establishing the "Rainbow Covenant" with Noah, He promised never to destroy the world with a flood again. As the Bible reminds us, "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth." Let us hold hope in our hearts and remember that God is the Lord who cares for us. He was gracious yesterday, and He remains gracious today.
Often, we focus on what we cannot control—natural disasters, unforeseen circumstances, and the uncertainties of tomorrow. Yet, we must remember the aspects of life we can influence. We can cherish our relationships, foster our communities, and strive for kindness and understanding. In the face of uncontrollable events, let us endeavor to live lives filled with purpose and compassion.
“Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? “ (James 4:14) While nature may lie beyond our control, our actions and attitudes toward one another are entirely within our hands. Like Noah, we are called to build our own “arks,” creating safe havens of love and support for those around us. Let us cherish every moment, support one another when needed, and work together to make our world a better place.
As we move into the Second Term, may we find strength in academic and different aspects, and find purpose in our shared humanity. Together, we can weather any storm and emerge stronger, more resilient, and filled with hope for the future.
Best regards,
Constance Cheung
