Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome back to our warm Pooi To family. The academic year is beginning, and our new theme is "Driven by Innovation, Guided by values". We hope that each Pooi To Girl will grow into a responsible, visionary and faith-driven member of the new generation in this challenging and opportunity-filled era.
"Driven by Innovation" emphasizes unity, collaboration, and collective innovation for the future. During the pandemic, we witnessed the selfless dedication of healthcare workers, the rapid development of vaccines by researchers, the full implementation of online teaching in education, and businesses adopting remote work while accelerating the growth of e-commerce and logistics. Additionally, many citizens offered mutual assistance and various sectors donated resources, showcasing the power of "togetherness." Currently, in the face of global climate change challenges, countries around the world are actively promoting green transformation. Several European nations are collaborating to build offshore wind power networks, multinational companies are jointly developing efficient solar panels, and academic institutions are sharing data to drive environmental innovation. Our country has also become the largest in the world in terms of renewable energy capacity. The electricity generated from renewable energy sources such as hydropower, wind power, and solar energy in our country has exceeded 1.73 billion kilowatts, accounting for approximately 54.7% of the total installed capacity for power generation nationwide. This collaboration not only brings technological innovation but also fosters resilience for the future. At Pooi To, we emphasize “Encouraging growth for ALL”. When you encounter difficulties, you can discuss them with classmates or seek guidance from teachers. We promote cross-grade cooperation models like "strong supporting weak" and "seniors guiding juniors," allowing everyone to grow together with mutual support.
"Guided by values" means guiding our lives with the correct values. In this age of information explosion, with fragmented data and the difficulty of discerning the truth from fake news, it's easy to lose our direction. While AI brings convenience, it also raises ethical issues such as privacy breaches, lack of integrity and data falsification. We must learn to use technology wisely rather than be controlled by it—this requires critical thinking and creativity; otherwise, our values may be distorted. This issue brings us back to our school’s core values of "love, integrity, purity, and perseverance", maintaining an inner steadiness rather than following the crowd. The algorithms of social media can easily trap us in echo chambers, limiting our perspectives and intensifying divisions. In the face of challenges like deep fakes and data surveillance, we must pursue authenticity with "integrity" and uphold principles with "perseverance." Technology should serve humanity, not dictate our values. Only by cultivating independent thinking, holding onto the "love" of Christ, and maintaining “purity” can we remain clear-headed in a world where reality and illusion blend, making positive choices for others and society. Ultimately, "Guided by values" is a continuous journey of self-awareness and practice—like a shining light in this convoluted and paradoxical era, we must illuminate the path of life.
As the Bible says: "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." (John 15:5) May we support each other and move forward together in the new school year, witnessing values through co-creation and practicing faith through companionship, allowing the spirit of Pooi To to shine in each of our lives.
Best regards,
Constance Cheung
