The Ceremony marking the achievements and efforts of the graduates commenced with a prayer followed by a song of praise and script reading; thereafter, our principal Ms Cheung made an annual report of the school’s six aspects of development including spiritual, moral, intellectual, physical, social and aesthetic accomplishments. The Supervisor Dr. Eddie Ho then presented Service Award to the teaching and supporting staff for their years of commitment and contribution to the school.
It was our honour to have invited Dr Lam Ching-choi, BBS, JP, non-official member of the Executive Council of Hong Kong, Chief Executive Officer of Haven of Hope Christian Service, and Chairman of the Elderly Commission to address a speech. Dr Lam quoted three stories to encourage all to live a meaningful life and become influential persons in communities with the spirit of our school motto ‘Love, Integrity, Purity and Perseverance’.
1. Dr Lam is still deeply grateful for the help offered by Sir Ellis Kadoorie when he was small. His family could ultimately alleviate poverty because of his ‘Love’.
2. Dr Lam was touched and impressed by the dedication of Sister Annie Skau Berntsen, the Haven Hope founder. Her commitments to serving the patients and evangelizing in Hong Kong and Mainland China enabled him to build good values, and they also signified the spirits of ‘Integrity’ and ‘Purity’.
3. When Dr Lam had first proposed building a pavement and a cycling trail on Cross Bay Link in Tseung Kwan O, the Government flatly turned down his proposal. Being determined, he successfully convinced the Government of the construction of the pavement and the trail. This demonstrated his stringent attitude and spirit of ‘Perseverance’.
The inspirational address was followed by a prize presentation at which our graduates received certificates and awards from Dr Lam and our school managers. The audience was impressed with their outstanding achievements in academic performance and personal qualities. Thereupon, a graduation speech was made by the Noble House Captain while a vote of thanks was proposed by the Vice-captain to express their deep gratitude for all the effort the school had made for them. The ceremony ended with the School Song and hymns performed by our school choir.
