The main character, Charley, had a broken leg, so he couldn’t be a baseball player anymore. He didn’t want to do anything and he left his family to live alone. His daughter got married but she did not invite him to her wedding. He felt extremely sad and decided to end his life. On the day he killed himself, he went back to his old house and recalled a lot of memories in the old days. He saw his dead mother in the house and he was still a child. From the old memories, he learnt that his mother had sacrificed a lot for him. One part is that when Charley was six years old, his mother made him a costume for the Halloween parade. She put toilet paper around him and he could pretend to be a mummy. However the toilet paper was all wet in the rain. He scolded his mother for the silly idea for putting toilet paper around him. His mom did not say a word but help him to take off the wet toilet paper. Charley really felt sorry for what he had said to his mother when he was small. This part is so touching because Charley could not say sorry to his mom anymore. His mom is dead. He has learnt to cherish what he has in his life. What about you? Have you ever been so mad to your parents? Maybe you can learn something from Charley’s story. As I haven’t finished reading this book, I can’t share the ending. I know that you can buy this book in next week’s English Book Fair and you can enjoy 25% off. Hope all of you will be interested in it. |
