Koalas in Sydney sleep up to 20 hours per day. This is
because they only eat eucalyptus leaves which drug them
up, leaving them with very little energy. They need to eat
around a kilogram of leaves per day.

This was my first time travelling without my family! I felt a bit homesick but it was a worthwhile experience because
we could learn to be independent and cope with different people and situations. You know, it is not easy to stay with
someone you don’t know very well for a couple of weeks. It was a golden opportunity for me to learn how to get
along with others, including my buddy. We have different characters but we learnt, had fun, did crazy things together
and supported each other.
Besides, we have also enhanced our confidence in speaking English. In Sydney, English is the main language we
use to communicate with our host families, local teachers and students. We have learnt more English phrases and
improved our communication skills. People there speak so fast but with weeks of immersion, we could pick up the
speed and the accent without much difficulty.
What’s more, the study tour also trains our discipline. Though we were on a tour overseas, we still had to attend our
morning classes and afternoon excursions, and we had to be punctual. After we went back to our host families, we
still worked hard on our log books as well as the class assignments. When we were having outings, we would walk
fast in a quiet orderly line so as to give the locals an impression that Asians are well-mannered and considerate.
Otherwise, we would be blocking the street, causing a lot of disturbance to others.
