 S2 Inter-class Choral Speaking Competition
It is thought by many that the best way to explore English is through language arts, and what better way to do this than with poetry. In order to really maximize the benefits and build a solid foundation in poetry, S2 students engaged in both written and oral activities. With the help of their poetry teacher, Mr Russell, each class delivered their
own interpretation of “Forgiven, by A. A. Milne” in an inter-class choral speaking competition. 2A & 2B went on to represent the school in the 71st Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival, with 2B achieving 1st Place! S2 students also challenged themselves by writing their own poem with one of the following titles “Grasp the Nettle”, “I Didn’t
Give In” or “Just Do It”. Here are some of our favourites.
 Grasp the Nettle 2C 2D I Didn’t Give In
    Tina Fung 2B (17) Liu Sui Yu 2D (16)
I was afraid of performing on stage, I Didn’t Give In
I was very nervous and scared. Janice Chow 2C (6) Come to nothing for my interview.
I even got a headache, Just Do It Try again with my best smile.
I studied hard for the exam, but I felt ill.
And people thought I was unprepared. I really didn’t give up. Crystal Lee 2D (12) Not happy to fail again,
‘Never give up,’ is my style.
But I tried to solve the problem, Destiny came by and said, To wake up early in the morning,
By practising in front of the mirror. Is very diffi cult for me. Never feel dismayed for failing twice,
Alright, it’s quite embarrassing and funny, “I am fate’s will.” Even afternoon and evening, Say, ‘You can do it!’ to myself,
But my success is moving nearer. Even though it was hard, So sleepy I will be. Fourth time I see the hope in it,
I did it all by myself.
My courage will be as strong as metal, And I struggled through it all. I need to sleep early at night,
                          You may be struggling,
If I step up now and grasp the nettle. So in the morning I can fi ght.
But you’ll never see me fall.
Grasp the Nettle Just Do It
          Dora Kwok 2B (18)
My teacher always asks me to write a poem, I Didn’t Give In Wong Ka Yan 2D (23)
                                                 Phoebe Ou 2C (24)
But I never know how to write it. I was a setter in the volleyball team, Every day I eat from early to late,
It’s hard for me to lose some
If I don’t do it, Miss will be angry, weight.
But I still don’t want to fi ght it. But I didn’t do very well.
Nan encouraged me, “Try to write it again.” Then, I was changed to spiker, There is no food that I don’t like
So, I tried, “I’ll do the best I can.” It was tough, I collapsed and yelled. to eat,
                                                                                          Apples, oranges, milk and meat.
Finally, I fi nished the poem very well, Then I practiced and practiced so hard,
So, I said, “Thanks!” to my friend, Nan. And got fi rst runner-up with my teammate. But I must make time for
My courage will be as strong as metal, We were all very excited, exercise,
If I step up now and grasp the nettle. I shared my joy with my old classmate. So my clothes don’t need to
                                                                                          change size.
 I Didn’t Give In

I like to cook for others. I Didn’t Give In Kate Au 2C (1) I Didn’t Give In

I tried to cook dessert. I’m scared of English presentations, Ying Hui Yi 2D (26)
I mixed all the ingredients, I tried to draw my mum, I’m fi rst and I forgot to prepare. I failed to make a cake three times,
But the taste made me hurt. But I couldn’t do it. Just before, I had a difficult I put in too much fl our.

Mum tried what I made, A boy I painted patiently, Next time I walk into the lesson, I forgot to turn off the switch,
And began to scream and spit. But the drawing was so ugly. And speak out nice and loud. The cake was so hard to eat.
I went to the mall for ingredients, I knew I had to draw again, Because I patiently listened in the Next time I’ll remember the hours,

And tried one more time. lesson, So the cake will be yummy and sweet.
I carefully put it all together, I felt better and very proud.
And I succeeded, the taste was sublime!
