  • 80.3% of students met the basic entrance requirements for admission (33222) to publicly funded undergraduate degree courses.  58.8% of graduating students enroll led in degree programmes.
  • On 6 May, the hit musical, “Mamma Mia!”, was staged to celebrate the school's 128th Anniversary.
  • A series of activities was held to promote the culture and heritage of Qipao, namely the Pooi To Qipao Design (Primary Section) Competition, Mini Qipao Workshop and Qipao Fashion Show.
  • The Athletics Team won the Division 3 (Area 3) Inter-School Athletics Competition.
  • The first batch of students sat for HKDSE Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, BAFS (Accounting) and ICT in English.
  • Toastmasters was established in collaboration with HKUST to strengthen students’ public speaking.
  • A bilingual website was set up to provide a better network for parents and the public.
  • The Geography Department took part in a Pilot School Scheme: the Map in Learning (MiL) Program.
  • The establishment of S1 GEMS programme - Gifted Education in Mathematics and Science, aims to widen students’ horizons in Mathematics and Science.
  • A STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education scheme was launched to inspire students to explore everyday technology.

  • To illustrate the theme of the school year ‘As thy days, so shall thy strength be’, the Student Guidance Committee organized various activities highlighting the importance of resilience as one of six essential personal qualities.
  • On 15 December, a concert ‘Oh, What Love?’ was held in the school hall, where the Watoto Children’s Choir of Uganda performed. All the teachers and students were impressed by the wonderful songs which reminded us of God’s great love and His faithfulness.
  • The school was awarded a $563,000 grant by the EDB Quality Education Fund to establish an e-database for Chinese History education in Hong Kong.
  • In ‘The School-based Assessment Outstanding Learning Outcomes Awards’, which was organized by Department of Chinese and History at the City University of Hong Kong, S.6 Gaby Chui came First and Daisy Lau got Merit for History while Evangeline Chow came Third in Visual Arts. S.5 Tang Lok-yee got a Merit in the ‘China Essay Competition for Secondary Students (Hong Kong Region)’. S1 & S2 students got the Bronze Award and S4 Tam Man-yi got Third Prize in the ‘Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad’.
  • On 13 March, an Extended Learning Day was held to enable students to put self-directed learning into practice through 30 activities and reflection on what they had done.
  • Our basketball team finished in sixth place at the Inter-school Basketball Competition (Division 1) while the Athletic Team came eleventh in the Inter-School Cross Country Competition (Division 1).
  • More than two hundred students who were involved for 10 months in the production of ‘Arts in Action 2017’ and the musical ‘Fame JR.’were highly trained in stage acting and behind-the-scenes production.  On 5 May, all the audiences, including Alliance Primary School, Kowloon, Tong Farm Road Government Primary School, Pooi To Middle School, Guangzhou No.7 Middle School & Macau Pooi To Middle School and parents paid lavish praise to  performers and production crew for their lustrous performance.
  • The ‘Cheongsam Mentoring Scheme’, which received a Certificate of Merit in the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards 2016 (School Division), was reported by various media including the Sunday Report by TVB, TVB iNews ‘HK Historical Sites’, Hong Kong Economic Times, Hong Kong 01 and Roadshow. The ‘Hong Kong Cheongsam Story’ will be shown as part of an exhibition near Gate 22 at the Airport until January 2017.

  • The theme of the 130th Anniversary was ‘From Vision To Legend’. A series of activities were held to celebrate the 130th Anniversary: 
  • 3 March: ž ‘130th Anniversary Opening Ceremony cum Fun Fair’ - Mr. Kevin Yeung JP, Secretary for Education was invited to officiate at the Opening Ceremony followed by Fun Fair. Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening Ceremony was held at STEM Room and Historic Cultural Room.
  • žAround 2,200 entries received this year showcased the artistic talents and bright ideas of the primary students at ‘Pooi To × Barbie Qipao Design (Primary Section) Competition 2018’. Their works were of high level of creativity and originality. 100 entries were selected and displayed in the school Exhibition Hall.
  • 9 March: ž 130th Anniversary Lighting Ceremony was hosted by Student Union 130th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service was held at Kowloon City Baptist Church. Dr. Philemon Choi Yuen-wan gave a sermon about Pooi To since 1888.
  • 10 March: Alumni from around the world gathered together to celebrate the 130th    anniversary of their alma mater and attended the Gala Dinner.
  • 23-25 March: Organized by Kowloon City Baptist Church and our school, Gospel Trip to Macau gave the students an opportunity to spread the gospel and visit the Macau Bible Institute, Macau Baptist Church and Macau Pooi To middle School.
  • 4-5 May: Arts in Action 2018 《The Year of Festival》, a unique component of the 130th anniversary celebrations, was performed at Jockey Club Auditorium, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. More than 220 teachers and students gave truly lustrous performances which received high praise from the audience.
  • 19-21 July: A group of 24 teachers and student leaders had a journey to Guangzhou, where they spent three days learning about Pooi To’s history at Guangzhou No.7 Middle School as well as the economic and social development of the city.
  • Professor Tsui Lap-chee, the president of Academy of Sciences of Hong Kong was invited to officiate at the 54th Graduation Ceremony and addressed the school.
  • Moon Cho of S4 was awarded ‘Scout of the Year 2017’ in recognition of her great   commitment to social services and significant contribution to the Scout Association.
  • Amy Ho, Chloe Poon and Yoyo Tam of S5 won the Gold Award in the ‘Youth Ambassadors for Geological Conservation’.
  • Basketball Team achieved overall Third runner-up in Inter-school Basketball Competition (Division 1).
  • Funded by the Quality Education Fund, Chinese History Department developed E-Learning of Chinese History. The projected aimed to enhance learning and teaching effectiveness and catering for learner diversity in senior secondary Chinese History as well as promoting students' learning motivation and self-directed learning through developing an inter-school resource bank and an on-line learning platform.
  • Ava Lau and Emily Poon of S5 and Moon Cho of S4 won the chance to represent Hong Kong and join the ‘Youth Cultural Exchange Tour to Taiwan for an Experiential Project on Community Building’.
  • 73.2% of students fulfilled the basic entrance requirement for admission to publicly funded undergraduate (3322+2). 76.5% of the qualified students received JUPAS offers.
  • The theme hymn ‘From Legend To Vision’ for the school year 2017/18 was written to celebrate our 130th Anniversary. Through the hymn, we praise to the Lord for His countless blessings and grace on Pooi To since 1888.

‘Pooi To x Barbie Qipao Design with Scenic Design (Secondary Section) Competition’


2019
  • A 3D printing workshop was established to train students to master the skill of 3D printing and strengthen their ability to integrate and apply the knowledge and skills.
  • The specifically designed STREAM curriculum aimed to facilitate cross-curricular reading under the themes in project learning, Reading and Autonomy were added to STEM curriculum in junior forms. Various subject departments and functional teams collaborated on this curriculum with distinctive features of Pooi To.
  • The Chinese Dance Team, new participants in the 55th Schools Dance Festival, won the Highly Recommended Award in Chinese Dance (Secondary Section).
  • Moon Cho of S5 won the Kowloon City District Outstanding Student Award (Senior Section)
  • Ms Chan Ying-ying received a Certificate of Merit in ‘Ms Chen Jing’s Award for Teaching Excellence in Chinese History’.
  • Moon Cho, Mia Leung and Grace Wong of S.5 won the Gold Award in the “Youth Ambassadors for Geological Conservation”.  They could participate in a study trip to Yandangshan UNESCO Global Geopark (Wenzhou City, Zhejiang) in April.
  • Fandy Choi, Jojo Chung, Rain Chung and Yumi Lam of S4 were crowned the Overall Champion in the ‘Hong Kong Product Design Makeathon 2018-19’, organized by the Department of Industrial and System Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
  • Funded by the Quality Education Fund, the Chinese History Department developed an e-Learning curriculum for Chinese History. The project was aimed at enhancing learning, as well as arousing students' interest in Chinese History and self-directed learning through inter-school eLearning with drama activities.
  • The heartening performances by the Chamber Orchestra, Percussion Band, Chinese Dance Club, Dance Club, Choral Groups and Musical Club created a joyous atmosphere at Arts in Action 2019. With the concerted efforts made by the helpers behind the scenes, the entire show was well-received and highly praised.
  • 73.7% of students met the basic entrance requirement for admission to publicly funded undergraduate degrees (3322+2). 74.6% of the qualified students received JUPAS offers.
  • The initial ‘Pooi To x Barbie Qipao Design with Scenic Design (Secondary Section) Competition’ was held. The distinguished Barbies wearing tailored-made qipaos were set at a party in the 1960s. The original and beautifully designed figures perfectly matched the varieties of artistic backgrounds.


In the Joint School Music Competition, the School Choir in the Secondary School Choir (Challenge) and the A capella Team in the Secondary School Group Ensemble (Singing) were presented with Gold Awards

  • The COVID-19 pandemic broke out. Since the school suspension, starting from 25 January, the online lessons were carried out in four phases including online teaching, real-time online teaching trials, real-time online teaching and online assessment.
  • Based on the concept of forward psychology (PERMA), taught by Martin Seligman in the United States, and the school's schooling philosophy, a school-based Positive Education Framework and Curriculum in a cross-disciplinary manner was implemented to suit the needs of the students.
  • 70% of students met the basic entrance requirement for admission to publicly funded undergraduate degrees (3322+2). 74.7% of the qualified students received JUPAS offers.
  • Basketball Team was not only awarded third place in the Grade A Inter-school Basketball Competition (Division 1), but was also invited to participate in the Panasonic Inter-school Basketball Competition.
  • Co-organized by Physical Education Team, Music Department and Visual Arts Department, the ‘Learning Arts and Sports Programme’ was established to increase students’ understanding of arts, develop their interest and potential in sports, and promote their aesthetic development as well as physical and psychological well-being.
  • The ‘Pooi To Ambassadors Committee’ was set up to enhance students’ sense of belonging and responsibility. The ambassadors organized a series of activities to carry their initiatives forward.
  • The ‘Two-year Cheongsam Heritage Scheme’ supported by the Quality Education Fund was launched.
  • In the Joint School Music Competition, the School Choir in the Secondary School Choir (Challenge) and the A capella Team in the Secondary School Group Ensemble (Singing) were presented with Gold Awards in recognition of their fantastic and beautiful singing.
  • Cho King-yuet of S6 received the Multi-faceted Excellence Scholarship (MES) launched by the Home Affairs Bureau. Her high level of achievement in social services and significant contribution to the Scout Association were highly appreciated.
  • The school was invited to participate in the publication ‘Education on the Kowloon Past and Present’ published by the Hong Kong Museum of Education of The Education University of Hong Kong.

  • To enhance students’ whole person development, the Six Qualities were reconstructed. The school promoted character education through nurturing in the students the 3R: ‘Reflection’, ‘Responsibility’ and ‘Respect’.
  • With a concerted effort made by 130 students, the filmed Arts in Action 2021, composed of music, dancing and the musical ‘Annie, Jr.’, was a great success.
  • An online exchange activity with the theme ‘Historic Buildings and Food Culture in China and Hong Kong’ was held in the light of strengthening the bond between our school, Pooi To Middle School and our sister school, Guangzhou No.7 Middle School.
  • The Culture and Heritage Room was established in order to provide an environment equipped with learning and teaching e-resources for students to experience cultural ambience while learning Chinese history. For the Promotion of Chinese History and Culture, the Inter-school Hanfu Costume Day was launched to bring teachers and students closer to the beauty of Hanfu clothing and admire the historical styles of clothing and offer them a chance to learn the features and of Hanfu and Chinese traditional etiquette.
  • The Reform of the Academic Structure for the Senior Secondary Education Team was formed to set up the new framework of the New Senior Secondary Academic Structure.
  • With the aim of being responsible, appreciative of Chinese culture and committed to our society and country, activities co-organized by the student committees of subject departments and associations were integrated with national and global identity, Basic Law education, and a better understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture.
  • The Student Support Team participated in the programme ‘Mindshift Educational Networking Programme’ organized by the HKU Department of Psychiatry to help students adopt a positive outlook on life, and develop knowledge, skills and strategies to cope with mental health and also the ability to handle stress and adversity.
  • The National Security Education Committee was set up to implement National Security Education in all subject departments and functional teams through providing learning and teaching resources.
  • A Qipao design competition was held to uphold the culture of Cheongsam uniform, promote Chinese traditional art and culture, and enhance interest in the traditional craftsmanship and appreciation of Qipao. The theme of ‘The 5th Pooi To × Barbie Qipao Design (Primary Section) Competition’ was ‘Be Positive  Shine Out with Great Brilliance’.
  • The school music groups won gold, silver and bronze awards in the Joint School Music Competition organized by the Hong Kong Joint School Music Association.
  • Starting from 11 January to 21 May 2021, face-to-face classes resumed in phases. From 24 May onwards, the whole school resumed half-day face-to-face classes.
