S4 students taking Geography set off this morning for the Caritas Chan Chun Ha Field Studies Centre in Cheung Chau to participate in a one-day field study titled “Urban Problems and Their Relationship with Distance from the City Centre.”
The study aimed to help students understand the spatial distribution of urban problems through outdoor learning. Working in groups at different locations in Cheung Chau, students observed and collected data on land use, building conditions, and residents’ activities to assess the degree of urban decay. Back at the centre, they processed and analyzed their findings using isopleth mapping techniques to test their hypotheses.
This field exercise enabled students to apply classroom theories in real contexts, deepen their understanding of urban geographical issues, and strengthen their collaboration and inquiry skills.
