Eunice II: A Tale of 2 Ci es

Last year, our very own Eunice Yip won acclaim
in a 3-way contest against two other Young Post
journalists. She made the point that she didn’t
win the pair of Beats Solo 2 wireless headphones
on offer to the victor but here she is again, this
year, deba ng Hong Kong’s aff ordability with her
opponent. Just to show you the diff erence in per-
spec ve or point of view that background makes,
here is a table of the matching arguments.

          cheap public transport expensive cars

Which of these 2 reporters do you think was born with a silver spoon in their mouth?

Currently I am doing an exchange year here in Hong
Kong. I have been here for 10 months and since I’ve nearly
fi nished, I’d like to share a bit of my experience. Going for
an exchange year was the scariest decision of my life but
it’s a great thing to do and I would highly recommend it to
                              anyone.
It was very hard for me to leave my friends and family back in Germany. But soon I found a new family here,
which helped me overcome my homesickness.. I have now found some of my best friends here in Hong Kong. I also
found a lot of friends in Pooi To. I’ll miss all of my friends a lot when I go back to Germany.
Hong Kong’s culture is very diff erent from Germany’s. It was hard for me to adapt but I realized that I had to
open myself up more, so now I have go en used to the cultural diff erence. Also, since I was completely on my own, I
had to become a lot more independent. Learning a new language has been very hard but I’ve made a lot of improve-
ments in both English and Cantonese.
In conclusion, I can say that leaving my normal environment and going
for an exchange year has really opened my eyes and I have become a lot
more open to new countries and new cultures. I have also become a lot
more talka ve in front of new people and I would not have wanted to miss
this experience. I now have a strong desire to travel more and experience
                                             more cultures around the world.
